Esteban Ocon dropped by Haas after Mexico City row with team principal Ayao Komatsu
Haas has confirmed that Esteban Ocon has been dropped for the rest of the season, with Rafael Camara making an earlier-than-planned debut at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix this weekend. Ocon was stood down from the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend on Saturday and replaced by reserve driver Ryo Hirakawa, without explanation at the time.
The move followed a dispute with race engineer Laura Mueller over tyre choice during second practice on Friday. Sky Sports F1's Ted Kravitz reported that a "big row" then took place between Ocon and team principal Ayao Komatsu. A report by French newspaper L'Equipe claimed the meeting ended abruptly, perhaps even physically, but Ocon firmly denied this in a statement on social media on Saturday evening.
Kravitz suggested the episode may mark the end of Ocon's Formula 1 career, as Ocon is not part of Haas's plans for next year and Cadillac has said he is not in contention for the seat held by Valtteri Bottas.
