Alex Dunne aims for 2028 F1 opportunity as F2 title fight continues
Irish driver Alex Dunne says he intends to keep his Formula 1 ambitions alive and is looking at opportunities for the 2028 season. He is reported to have several possibilities under consideration after a strong second half to his 2026 Formula 2 campaign with Rodin Motorsport.
Dunne sits 11 points behind Nikola Tsolov and 18 behind Rafa Camara in the standings, with the final races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi still scheduled. Camara has already secured a Haas seat for 2027, while Tsolov is reported to be waiting on a possible Racing Bulls opportunity. Dunne is not considered a contender for a race seat in 2027.
Dunne has had a difficult recent period, leaving the McLaren programme in 2025 and being signed by Alpine without appearing in an F1 car this season. Sources indicate he is set to leave the Alpine programme, and he has reportedly held exploratory talks with Cadillac.
