Mercedes eyes another title as Brazil's São Paulo GP returns to the calendar

Source: F1-Fansite · · added 1 hour ago

The 2026 São Paulo Grand Prix will be the sixth race held at the Interlagos circuit under that name and the 53rd Formula 1 World Championship race in Brazil, and the 20th round of the 2026 calendar.

The article traces the history of the Brazilian Grand Prix, from Carlos Reutemann's 1972 win for Brabham in a non-championship race to the first championship round in 1973. Emerson Fittipaldi took home wins in 1973 and 1974, and José Carlos Pace won the 1975 race for Brabham at Interlagos, the track now named after him.

The event later moved to Rio de Janeiro between 1981 and 1989 because of safety concerns over the Interlagos asphalt and facilities. Nelson Piquet won there at home in 1983 and 1986, and the 1982 race was marred by disqualifications linked to the wider FISA and FOCA dispute.
