McLaren's Stella criticises Piastri penalty after Mexico City Grand Prix

Source: RacingNews365 · · added 5 hours ago

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella said Lando Norris was stuck behind rivals for long stretches of the Mexico City Grand Prix, finishing fifth after failing to pass George Russell and then Charles Leclerc. Oscar Piastri recovered from 12th on the grid to finish seventh, but stewards later handed him a 10-second time penalty for a Turn 1 collision with Arvid Lindblad, dropping him to 15th.

Stella described the penalty as harsh, saying it cost the team valuable points after a good comeback by Piastri. McLaren sit fourth in the constructors' standings, 17 points behind Red Bull, and are targeting the Brazilian Grand Prix with upgrades to close the gap.

Stella also congratulated Kimi Antonelli, who finished third in Mexico City and became the youngest Formula 1 world champion in the sport's history.
