Kimi Antonelli will receive F1 title trophy at FIA gala in Shanghai in December
Kimi Antonelli did not receive the championship trophy after becoming the youngest Formula 1 world champion, as the big trophy was not presented at the race. Instead, his signature was digitally added to the trophy shown on a screen behind him, alongside those of the 35 drivers who have previously won the title.
The trophy is the centrepiece of the FIA annual prize-giving ceremony, which this year takes place in Shanghai. Gathering all world champions from FIA-sanctioned championships in one place is seen as a positive message for those just starting out. Liberty Media runs the commercial side of F1, but the FIA holds sporting and regulatory authority, and it is reluctant to hand over a trophy that might later have to be taken back.
Antonelli will officially become champion on December 12th, when Lando Norris hands back the trophy he holds as reigning world champion.
