Kimi Antonelli crowned 2026 Formula 1 world champion at the Mexico Grand Prix
Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli secured his maiden Formula 1 world championship at the Mexico Grand Prix, becoming the youngest world champion in the sport's history at 20 years old. He broke the record previously held by Sebastian Vettel, who was 23 when he won his first title with Red Bull in 2010.
After the race, Sky Sports F1 presenter Natalie Pinkham, along with Jamie Chadwick and Nico Rosberg, congratulated Antonelli. Pinkham told him, "We are so proud of you, congratulations. Honestly, absolutely magnificent. Enjoy this, this is your moment."
The Italian is in only his second season in Formula 1, having joined Mercedes in 2025 following Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari. His 2026 campaign included nine Grand Prix victories and a Sprint Race win at the British Grand Prix.
