Herta to get another Cadillac FP1 run in Brazil to complete F1 superlicence
Cadillac will give Colton Herta another practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix, replacing Sergio Perez, in an effort to earn the final superlicence point he needs. The team had initially expected his Mexico FP1 outing to be enough, but an error on IndyCar's website had overstated his championship position and inflated his points tally by two.
Herta currently has 39 superlicence points, one short of the 40 required. He would need to complete at least 24 laps in FP1 to earn that final point, so the outcome in Brazil is not guaranteed. Cadillac had already planned another FP1 run before the end of the year, as Herta is a leading contender to replace Valtteri Bottas next season.
The team also suffered a major reliability problem in Mexico when Bottas's front-left suspension failed, and it is investigating the cause after similar issues on Perez's car earlier this year.
