Herta secures F1 super licence points amid Cadillac seat talk
Colton Herta has earned the 40 super licence points he needed after completing 30 laps in Friday practice at Interlagos. The American had been one point short following an error in IndyCar's published 2025 standings, and he is now eligible to apply for a full licence. Herta said his goal is to race in Formula 1, although his prospects of replacing Valtteri Bottas at Cadillac in 2027 remain unclear.
Bottas says his existing deal should keep him at the team, but he confirmed that final approval from Cadillac's board is still outstanding. Former driver Ralf Schumacher criticised the idea of promoting Herta, pointing to his struggles in Formula 2 this year, where he sits 19th in the standings with 26 points. Schumacher instead suggested McLaren reserve Leonardo Fornaroli, the reigning Formula 2 champion, would be a stronger candidate.
