Hill urges Ferrari to back Hamilton as clear number one
Damon Hill has called on Ferrari to make Lewis Hamilton its clear number one driver, saying this would end the debate over his battle with Charles Leclerc. Hill said Hamilton "will deliver" if Ferrari backs him 100 per cent.
The pair clashed again on the opening lap of the Mexican Grand Prix, where Leclerc received a five-second penalty for leaving the track and gaining a lasting advantage. Max Verstappen won the race for Red Bull, with Hamilton second and Leclerc fourth. Hamilton and Leclerc have each won one race this season, and Hamilton leads the drivers' standings by 14 points.
Carlos Sainz, Leclerc's former Ferrari teammate, said tension between two strong drivers in one team is common in Formula 1 and has happened at several teams over the years.
