Colton Herta reaches 40 points for F1 Super License
Cadillac test driver Colton Herta has qualified for a Formula 1 Super License after completing 31 laps in Friday's first practice session at Interlagos, adding the point needed to reach the required 40-point threshold.
Under the FIA's Super License system, non-race drivers can earn up to 10 points per year for completing at least 100 km in a practice session. Cadillac had believed Herta reached the threshold in Mexico City, but a miscommunication over his prior IndyCar results left him one point short. His Monza practice run did not count due to insufficient mileage.
Herta said it was a privilege to drive the car over three consecutive weekends. The Super License is mandatory for racing in Formula 1, and Herta is now a viable option for Cadillac should the team make a change as early as 2027, although Valtteri Bottas' position remains unclear.
