Schumacher dismisses Herta's Cadillac F1 credentials

Source: PlanetF1 · · added 1 hour ago

Ralf Schumacher has said Colton Herta "has no place" in Formula 1, describing Cadillac's extra FP1 sessions for the American driver as "just burning fuel". Herta has secured the final point needed for his FIA Super Licence after a sixth FP1 session at the Brazilian Grand Prix, making him eligible for an F1 2027 drive. He switched from IndyCar to Formula 2 in 2026 and sits 19th in the standings with two rounds remaining.

Schumacher told Sky Germany that Herta was "really, really bad" in Formula 2 and does not deserve a seat. He suggested McLaren reserve Leonardo Fornaroli, the back-to-back Formula 3 and Formula 2 champion, as a more deserving candidate, while agreeing it is good to promote American drivers.

Cadillac is understood to still favour retaining Valtteri Bottas for 2027, while Sergio Perez has signed a new deal to stay with the team for at least three seasons.
