Colton Herta to run in Brazilian GP practice in bid for final Super Licence point
Colton Herta will replace Sergio Perez at Cadillac for first practice at the São Paulo Grand Prix, where he needs to complete at least 100km to claim the 40th Super Licence point required for Formula 1 eligibility.
Herta fell one point short after the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend, when Cadillac believed he had reached the threshold. An error on the IndyCar website had misplaced him in the 2025 standings, reducing the Super Licence points he had earned that year. He has four points from five FP1 appearances this season and is on 39 heading into the Brazilian weekend.
A hydraulic issue limited him to five laps at Monza, which prevented him from earning the point there. Completing the Interlagos mileage would remove the regulatory obstacle, although it would not guarantee him a seat on next season's grid.
