Brundle defends Russell after he skipped post-race media at Mexico City Grand Prix

Martin Brundle has backed George Russell for missing the mandatory post-race press conference at the Mexico City Grand Prix, where team-mate Kimi Antonelli clinched the drivers' championship. Russell congratulated Antonelli and his family before leaving the circuit, and Mercedes was fined €5,000 by the FIA for the absence, which Toto Wolff appeared willing to pay.

Brundle said he did not blame Russell, suggesting that Russell, who has slipped to fourth in the standings, was too disappointed to face questions from the media straight after the race. He noted the far greater media access Formula 1 drivers provide compared with other sports, and said the situation had become too much for the 28-year-old.
