LMGT3 title rivals chase Edgar ahead of Monza
Seven different cars have won the first seven FIA World Endurance Championship races this season, leaving the LMGT3 class wide open. Jonny Edgar of TF Sport leads the Drivers' Championship by 18 points after the 24 Hours of Le Mans victory, and only needs a top-five finish at the 6 Hours of Monza to become the series' first solo champion since Richard Lietz in 2015.
The main challenger is the Manthey #92 Porsche of Yasser Shahin, Riccardo Pera and Richard Lietz, which won at Barcelona. Pera said the team had "nothing to lose" and would try to win the race. The Porsche carries 30 kilograms of success ballast, 12kg more than any other LMGT3 car, and Shahin has never raced at Monza, though the team tested there in August.
