Kubica quickest in wet Monza practice ahead of WEC finale

Source: Sportscar365 · · added 1 hour ago

Robert Kubica set the fastest time in the second Free Practice session for the FIA World Endurance Championship's season-ending 6 Hours of Monza, lapping in the No. 83 AF Corse Ferrari 499P in 1:38.143. Times fell compared with the opening session as teams fitted slicks for the first time, although both sessions were held in wet conditions.

Forecasts suggest qualifying and the race will be dry, leaving drivers without dry-running experience. Ferrari's Alessandro Pier Guidi said the lack of dry laps made setup a gamble, while team-mate Antonio Fuoco said everyone faced the same challenge.

Toyota Racing team principal Kamui Kobayashi paid tribute to Mike Conway, who retires from top-flight racing after the Monza race, with the pair having shared a car for 75 races. Ryo Hirakawa leads the drivers' standings by 17 points over Conway, and Toyota has won four of the seven races so far this season.
