Edgar says six-hour finale gives TF Sport a bigger buffer
Jonny Edgar says this year's FIA World Endurance Championship finale, which pays out regular season points for a six-hour race, gives himself and TF Sport a "slightly nicer" cushion in the LMGT3 title fight. Edgar, who is solo on points as co-driver Nicky Catsburg is absent from the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, holds an 18-point advantage over the No. 92 Manthey Porsche crew of Richard Lietz, Riccardo Pera and Yasser Shahin.
Edgar said the absence of 1.5x points, usually handed out at the season-ending 8 Hours of Bahrain, has worked in their favour. He added that the lead means more without that bonus, as 18 points would be a much less comfortable position had 38 been available.
If Edgar wins the title he would become the first solo driver to do so in the LMGT3 era and the first in any WEC category since Lietz took the 2015 GTE-Pro crown alone.
