Bourdais criticises FIA rating system after Cadillac exit
Sebastien Bourdais has voiced frustration with the FIA driver categorisation rules, saying his platinum rating is limiting his options for 2027. The 47-year-old Frenchman will not return to Cadillac's Hypercar line-up next year, with Jota having signed Antonio Felix da Costa and Ricky Taylor. Bourdais argued that sportscar racing often has seats reserved for silver and bronze-rated drivers, and said: "Unfortunately, the categorisation for guys like me just puts you into retirement."
He explained that his platinum status will not change until he is 55, and that his rating would then remain gold, leaving him with little prospect of a silver rating before 60. Bourdais said no deal has been finalised for next season, though talks are ongoing with several parties. A return to IndyCar appears unlikely.
Bourdais said he is open to GT, LMP2 or Hypercar machinery, provided a team wants him in its car. He added that he still gets more enjoyment from driving than from anything else.
