WEC 2030 Hypercar rules: Ferrari questions BoP future

Source: DailySportscar · · added 1 hour ago

With the 2025 World Hypercar Manufacturers' Champion, Ferrari, a key player in the talks, the finalisation of the 2030 Hypercar regulations is set to be the main talking point as the FIA WEC looks towards 2027. The target has been to finalise the full rules by the end of the calendar year, but there have been murmurs that 2030 could be unrealistic for the new single-platform rules to debut.

Ferrari's Antonello Coletta said he hoped the 2030 target was still achievable, adding that the aim is to decide within a few months, as a new project would need to start in the second part of next year. He suggested that if work began at the end of 2027 or the start of 2028, the timeline would need to jump to 2031.

Coletta also pointed to Balance of Performance as a critical area still being debated. He argued that a unique platform could allow the rules to be written clearly, with the final goal being to reduce BoP intervention so that the championship could rely on meritocracy.
