Wolff says Antonelli's title differs from Hamilton-era Mercedes successes
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has said that Kimi Antonelli's Formula 1 championship is different from the title wins the team enjoyed with Lewis Hamilton. Antonelli clinched the crown at the Mexican Grand Prix with third place, giving him an unassailable points lead with four races remaining, and became the sport's youngest champion.
Wolff described the Hamilton championships as incredibly rewarding and said the team felt part of the history of a great champion. He said Antonelli is different, noting that the 19-year-old still seems like a kid, and described that as refreshing. Wolff added that he hopes everyone can help preserve that, as Antonelli is closely tied to Mercedes.
Hamilton, who stood on the podium alongside Antonelli in Mexico, also congratulated the new champion on Instagram, saying he was glad to have seen his journey closely.
