Wolff praises Antonelli as a role model after Mexico City title win

Source: Sky Sports · · added 3 hours ago

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has said newly crowned world champion Kimi Antonelli should be a role model for young drivers and for some of Formula 1's more entitled competitors. The 20-year-old Italian became the sport's youngest ever world champion after clinching the title with four rounds to spare at the Mexico City Grand Prix.

Wolff said the era of the selfish, win-at-all-costs racing driver had ended, and described Antonelli as representing humility, integrity, loyalty and respect. He urged drivers who complain on the radio or crash frequently to look at Antonelli's example and work on improving.

Antonelli only needed to finish in the top nine in Mexico to secure the championship, but finished on the podium behind race winner Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. He said the title was just the beginning and that he hoped for many more battles with them in future.
