Norris hails Antonelli after Mercedes driver clinches 2026 F1 world title

Lando Norris has praised Kimi Antonelli after the Mercedes driver secured the 2026 Formula 1 drivers' championship. Norris, who was crowned at last year's season finale, will hand over the number one plate at the end of the current campaign. He spoke to Sky Sports F1 after the Mexico City Grand Prix, saying Antonelli had been "insane" this year.

Antonelli broke Sebastian Vettel's record as the youngest champion in F1 history by more than three years. He also becomes one of three drivers to win the title in only their second season, after Jacques Villeneuve in 1997 and Lewis Hamilton in 2008, excluding Juan Manuel Fangio, who won in 1951.

Norris said he was very happy for Antonelli, whom he described as a lovely person, and hoped the 20-year-old would celebrate properly.
