Hamilton and Leclerc telemetry shows new angle on Mexico City Turn 4 clash
Telemetry data has shed new light on the collision between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at the start of the Mexican Grand Prix. According to the analysis, Leclerc never had a realistic chance of making Turn 4, while a key moment of Hamilton's throttle application also stands out.
Leclerc has accepted only limited responsibility for the incident, blaming the design of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The drivers were warned beforehand that gaining an advantage by running off track on the first lap would carry a 10-second penalty, but this was reduced to five seconds because Hamilton also ran wide.
Max Verstappen capitalised on the clash to take victory, his third win in his last four grands prix. Leclerc, meanwhile, has announced the birth of his first child with Alexandra, ahead of the São Paulo Grand Prix.
