Hamilton and Bonnington share emotional reunion after Antonelli's Mexico City title win
Lewis Hamilton shared an emotional moment with his former race engineer Peter Bonnington after the Mexico City Grand Prix, where Kimi Antonelli clinched his maiden Formula 1 world title. Bonnington engineered Hamilton to six of his seven championships at Mercedes, and was seen embracing him after the race.
Bonnington, who also won a title with Jenson Button at Brawn GP, said he was still proud of his years working with Hamilton, describing him as one of the loveliest people on the planet. Antonelli's title came in just his second season, with a third-place finish behind Max Verstappen and Hamilton.
Hamilton called watching Antonelli's win and celebrating on the podium the highlight of his season, while Antonelli said he would frame the photo of himself being lifted by Verstappen and Hamilton.
