Daly says Ferrari's Hamilton-Leclerc clash shows a management failure

Source: RacingNews365 · · added 1 hour ago

Former F1 driver Derek Daly has said the tension between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at the Mexico City Grand Prix was the result of a management failure at Ferrari. The pair were battling for the lead on the opening lap, when both ran off the track after a side-by-side move through Turn 4, allowing Max Verstappen to take the lead before Leclerc was given a five-second penalty.

Daly compared the situation unfavourably with Ferrari's Michael Schumacher era under Jean Todt, arguing that the team now needs a more ruthless leader and saying he has yet to see that from team principal Fred Vasseur. He also suggested Vasseur faces difficulty in asking either driver to give way.

Daly added that Hamilton's commercial appeal had come at a cost to car development, claiming that Ferrari gave up on feedback from Carlos Sainz when it signed Hamilton.
