Antonelli says Hamilton and Verstappen lifting him on podium was unexpected

Kimi Antonelli has said he will frame the pictures of his title-winning podium celebration in Mexico City, when Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen lifted him onto their shoulders. Antonelli became the youngest-ever Formula 1 champion after finishing third at the Mexican Grand Prix.

Speaking to the Silver Arrows Radio Show, Antonelli described the moment as surreal and said he was grateful for the respect shown by two drivers who have made the history of the sport. He said the gesture was unexpected and that he became emotional once they lifted him up.

Antonelli said he had not yet fully taken in his achievement, adding that he would need time at home away from the track as the focus quickly shifts to the next race.
