Alonso says Honda's all-new 2027 engine is already on the dyno
Fernando Alonso says Honda's completely new 2027 Formula 1 engine is already running on the dynamometer, with Aston Martin looking beyond a difficult weekend in Mexico. He said the engine department is aware of the problems and difficulties, and that the project is entirely new.
Honda has confirmed a major power unit upgrade is planned for the start of 2027, with another significant step expected around the middle of the season. Alonso said he has faith and confidence in next year, and that the chassis is also progressing in the right direction. Honda's Shintaro Orihara has warned that Interlagos could again prove difficult for the power unit.
Separately, Marca reports that rumours of a new combustion-chamber sensor for FIA compliance checks in 2027 are incorrect, with the FIA expected to continue fully disassembling engines at factories to measure them.
