Toyota pair battle for WEC drivers' title at Monza finale

Source: DailySportscar · · added 1 hour ago

The 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship concludes at the 6 Hours of Monza, the eighth and final round. The circuit returns to the calendar after the Middle East conflict prevented Bahrain from hosting, and it will also be the first LMGT3 race held there.

Within Toyota, the #8 crew of Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa leads the #7 crew of Mike Conway, Nyck de Vries and Kamui Kobayashi by 17 points in the Drivers' standings. The #7 car needs a top-two finish to overhaul its sister entry, while a top-five result would secure the title for the #8 crew even if the #7 car wins. Conway is set to end his professional driving career at the event.

BMW holds a 24-point advantage over Ferrari in the Manufacturers' standings and could secure second place, its best FIA Manufacturers' result since 2012. Ferrari, the reigning World Champion, has managed only one victory this season.
