Ferrari seeks removal of BoP in 2030 Hypercar rules
Ferrari's global head of endurance, Antonello Coletta, has argued that Balance of Performance should not form part of the 2030 FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar regulations, which are still being finalised. The next-generation rules were outlined at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans, with a single platform under which all manufacturers would run a rear-wheel-drive car.
Coletta described the new rules as a "very good opportunity" to remove the complexities of LMH and LMDh cars competing together, and called for BoP to be removed entirely or made far less wide-ranging. He said that a unique platform could allow championships to be decided by meritocracy rather than debate over BoP at every race. Ferrari had previously made the same call last year, amid criticism of the revised system introduced for 2025.
Coletta said removing BoP would be "the dream" for Ferrari but that it was not mandatory for the manufacturer to continue in the WEC. He stressed that Ferrari must be able to build the car itself, and that a marginal BoP intervention might be acceptable. He also said Ferrari would prefer to keep a four-wheel-drive platform, though this was not a deal breaker.
