Buemi, Hartley and Hirakawa win 2026 WEC Hypercar titles
Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa have been crowned the 2026 FIA WEC Hypercar Drivers' World Champions after finishing 11th in the #8 Toyota at Monza. The title was secured without a fight, as Toyota had no pace advantage at the final round and neither of its cars challenged for position.
Toyota had already clinched the Manufacturers' Championship at Barcelona, and it won half of the season's races, including Le Mans. Buemi said winning the championship made up for missing out on Le Mans, while Hartley said the team had been looking for this opportunity since the car's updates.
The title is a fifth World Championship for Buemi and Hartley and a third for Hirakawa. Back-to-back wins at Fuji and Catalunya helped the #8 crew secure the championship by 17 points.
