Toyota to change strategy approach for Monza WEC finale

Source: Sportscar365 · · added 7 hours ago

Toyota Racing technical director David Floury has said the team will change how it approaches strategy for the 6 Hours of Monza, the final round of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Toyota has already secured the manufacturers' championship, so only its two TR010 Hybrid crews can still win the drivers' title. The No. 8 crew of Ryo Hirakawa, Sebastien Buemi and Brendon Hartley leads the No. 7 car by 17 points.

Both Toyotas struggled in qualifying, placing 15th and 16th, and Kamui Kobayashi was later handed a penalty for impeding that dropped him to the rear of the Hypercar field. Floury said he will not split strategy between the two cars this time, and that he expects the No. 8 car to copy the No. 7 car if it tries something new. Hirakawa said the team did not fully extract its potential in qualifying and expects another offset strategy during the race, which has worked for the team this season at Spa and Fuji.
