Cameron's Mustang catches fire at Sandown
Cameron's Blanchard Racing Team Mustang caught fire beneath its mid-section early in the Sandown race, on lap 14 of 79. He speared off the road through the Turn 2/3 chicane before rejoining and stopping at the inside of Turn 4. Fire marshals extinguished the blaze quickly, although the heat was enough to bubble the vinyl wrap on the left-rear quarter panel.
Cameron's engineer, Daniel Veronese, offered two possible causes. He suspected either a failure of the Power Distribution Module, which sits outside the car and is exposed to wet running, or fuel reaching the exhaust. Veronese said the car lost its whole electrical system, and described the outcome as a shame, given that Cameron had been running 14th and doing a half-decent job.
