Izan Guevara targets Qatar podium as Moto2 title fight with Manuel Gonzalez tightens
Izan Guevara says every point matters in his Moto2 championship battle with Manuel Gonzalez as the Qatar Grand Prix approaches. Only 3.5 points separate the pair with three rounds remaining. Pramac briefly looked likely to skip Qatar after Yamaha announced it would not send its MotoGP teams to Lusail, but the Moto2 team was given the choice and opted to race.
Guevara has never stood on the podium at Qatar, yet arrives in strong form with four podiums in the last six races. He described the circuit as one with many fast corners that will require adapting his riding style, adding that he is looking forward to building on a positive result in Malaysia.
Team manager Alex De Angelis said the team was uncompetitive at Qatar last year but now arrives with a much higher level of potential. He pointed to Guevara's victory at Valencia as a sign of progress and said the aim is to score as many points as possible.
