Marc Marquez closes on Valentino Rossi's MotoGP Grand Prix win record

Marc Marquez is eight Grand Prix wins behind MotoGP Hall of Famer Valentino Rossi, and a victory at Lusail would take him to 81. Francesco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi also have milestones within reach at the Qatar Grand Prix.

Eight different riders have won a MotoGP Grand Prix so far in 2026. A new winner on Sunday would equal the record of nine different winners in a season, set in 2016 and equalled in 2020. Ducati have also won all three Sprints held at Lusail, with Jorge Martin taking two of them.

Marquez would be the first rider to win back-to-back Lusail Grands Prix since Andrea Dovizioso in 2018 and 2019. Four riders on the grid, including rookie Diogo Moreira, are still searching for a maiden MotoGP Grand Prix win.
