Aldeguer set for Qatar MotoGP return after wrist injury, as Gresini confirms trip to Doha
Gresini Racing has confirmed that Ducati rider Fermin Aldeguer will travel to the Qatar Grand Prix and try to ride despite a wrist injury sustained in a crash at the Indonesian Grand Prix. Aldeguer underwent surgery soon after the incident and missed the Australian and Malaysian Grand Prix rounds. He still has to be cleared to race.
Iker Lecuona will stand in for Alex Marquez, who is recovering from shoulder surgery. Lecuona has been deputising for Aldeguer over the last two rounds. Gresini's announcement comes as a relief after five riders were already confirmed absent from Qatar, following Yamaha's decision not to send its teams to Lusail.
Raul Fernandez will attempt to race in Qatar but must first undergo further evaluation on a broken finger, while Jorge Martin is in doubt with a wrist fracture. Joan Mir is also uncertain due to returning illness symptoms. If several riders cannot race and replacements are not found, the grid could shrink to 13 starters.
