Yamaha withdraws from Qatar MotoGP as more riders may skip the round

Source: Crash.net · · added 1 hour ago

Yamaha has withdrawn both of its teams from the Qatar Grand Prix over safety concerns linked to the Middle East, citing its company travel advice. The MotoGP Group has reacted angrily and is threatening sanctions. All other manufacturers have so far confirmed their participation.

Nineteen of the 22 riders reportedly signed a letter stating they would not race in Qatar unless the championship accepts full liability. Reports suggest that demand was not met, and the championship has said it will penalise any boycott. Alex Marquez has also ruled himself out to have surgery on a shoulder injury, leaving 17 riders confirmed on the entry list, a figure that could fall further through injuries.

Jorge Martin is among those reluctant to race, though he may feel pressure to ride given his championship position. Raul Fernandez, who has been struggling with a broken finger, will attempt to race pending a medical review, according to Trackhouse.
