Schumacher dismisses Herta's chances of a Cadillac F1 seat
Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher has said Colton Herta would be "just burning fuel" if he were to take a Cadillac drive for next season. Herta completed his sixth practice outing at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, which gave him the final superlicence point he needed to race in F1.
Cadillac is reportedly considering replacing Valtteri Bottas with Herta, while Mercedes reserve driver Frederik Vesti is also thought to be in contention. Schumacher was dismissive of the idea, saying it was "pointless" and suggesting young drivers should be given the chance instead.
Herta moved from IndyCar to Formula 2 this year in pursuit of F1, but has had a difficult season and sits 19th of the 22 full-time drivers with two rounds remaining. Schumacher said Herta had not earned a place in F1, while adding that he welcomed efforts to promote American drivers.
