Hamilton to start Brazilian GP from back after Ferrari engine change
Lewis Hamilton will start the São Paulo Grand Prix from the back of the grid after Ferrari was forced to replace the power unit in his SF-26. The Briton already faced a 10-place grid penalty at Interlagos following his fifth internal combustion engine change of the season, and returned to the track in FP3 with the new component fitted.
Hamilton reported engine problems and smoke in the cockpit during the session and returned to the garage. After an investigation by the team, it was decided that the power unit needed to be completely changed, meaning he will start from the back of the field on Saturday. Ferrari has confirmed he will still take part in qualifying, which will serve as an extended test session.
Teammate Charles Leclerc will also take a 10-place grid penalty after changing his own ICE component. The pair remain at odds following their controversial clash in Mexico City last week.
