Perez handed 30-place grid penalty for Brazilian Grand Prix

Source: PlanetF1 · · added 23 minutes ago

Cadillac driver Sergio Perez has been given a 30-place grid penalty by the FIA stewards ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix. The sanction follows his use of a fifth internal combustion engine, a fifth turbocharger and a fourth MGU-K during the 2026 season, which exceeded his component allocation. Perez becomes the second driver to receive a 30-place drop at Interlagos, after Max Verstappen, who is also due to start from the back of the grid.

Under the current rules, any driver accumulating a grid penalty of more than 15 places must start from the rear. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc face 10-place penalties after moving to a fifth ICE, while Mercedes' George Russell drops five places after taking a sixth.

Meanwhile, Cadillac has yet to confirm its 2026 driver lineup, with Valtteri Bottas's future reportedly to be decided at an upcoming board meeting. Colton Herta deputised for Perez in Friday's first practice session.
