Mick Schumacher says turning down Ferrari in 2019 was a mistake
Mick Schumacher has spoken about the lessons his father Michael imposed during his karting years, recalling how a poor performance at Sarno led to the cancellation of a trip to the world final in Bahrain. He said the decision hurt at the time, but that he later came to see it as a way of learning rather than punishment.
Schumacher also reflected on his two seasons at Haas, saying that a strained relationship with team principal Gunther Steiner meant he could have performed differently at another team. He said his time as reserve driver at Mercedes showed him how differently a team could work with a driver.
He admitted that declining a test driver role offered by Ferrari in 2019, in order to concentrate on Formula 2, is a decision that still bothers him.
