Liam Lawson says uncertain F1 future takes away from recent strong results
Liam Lawson has admitted that the uncertainty surrounding his Formula 1 future takes away from some of his recent positive results. The New Zealander has been the strongest and most consistent midfield performer of the 2026 season and sits ninth in the standings on 83 points, well ahead of Pierre Gasly on 42.
Lawson said it was hard to enjoy his seventh-place finish in Mexico, which came after a penalty, because his future remained undecided. He is approaching the end of his second full season in F1, and with Red Bull's junior driver Nikola Tsolov competing for the Racing Bulls seat, he is in an all-or-nothing position for 2027.
Asked whether his on-track demeanour had changed, Lawson said Mexico had been a specific, difficult weekend and that he felt better heading into the following race.
