Leclerc penalised for Lawson collision in Brazil

Source: RaceFans · · added 17 minutes ago

Charles Leclerc has been handed a five-second time penalty by the stewards for colliding with Liam Lawson at Juncao during the Brazilian Grand Prix. The contact occurred as Leclerc began to overtake Lawson at the end of lap 69, and he completed the pass on the following lap.

The stewards ruled that the contact was caused by Leclerc and that it contributed to his overtake. They said the contact disrupted Lawson's car and allowed Leclerc to pull alongside, which they considered an obvious sporting consequence. The penalty was reduced from ten seconds to five in light of the wet conditions and the minor nature of the contact.

The penalty means Lawson moves up to seventh in the race result.
