Hamilton says he missed rain build-up before Brazil spin
Lewis Hamilton said he spun late in the Brazilian Grand Prix because he did not realise conditions were deteriorating. He stayed on slick tyres when the rain returned at the end of the race, while rivals pitted for intermediates.
Hamilton said his last radio message suggested the drizzle would stay, so he kept pushing. He did not hear that rain was increasing in the first sector, and by turn one the track was wet. He then suffered a high-speed spin on the approach to the pit lane, which cost the team a couple of places.
Hamilton started 20th after a power unit change penalty and made up 11 places on the first lap before being passed by several rivals. He made one more pit stop than team mate Charles Leclerc, who finished two places ahead of him in seventh.
