Honda power unit fails after five laps in Mexico Grand Prix for Aston Martin

Source: Motorsport.com · · added 5 hours ago

Aston Martin's weekend at the Mexico Grand Prix went badly wrong after its Honda power unit lasted barely five laps. Honda's Shintaro Orihara had earlier described the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as a very challenging track for the power unit, but the team did not appear to anticipate such a sharp setback.

The team had shown decent pace and mileage in free practice, with Fernando Alonso just 0.769 seconds off the pace set by Charles Leclerc in the second session. The Aston Martin AMR26s covered a considerable distance across the practice running before the problem arose.

The full technical reasons behind the failure are set out in the original report.
