Herta to drive Cadillac FP1 in Brazil in bid for superlicence points
Cadillac has given Colton Herta a sixth Friday practice appearance of the season at the São Paulo Grand Prix, taking over Sergio Perez's MAC-26 for FP1 at Interlagos. The 26-year-old needs to complete 24 laps to earn the single superlicence point still missing from his tally of 40.
Herta's earlier FP1 outing at Monza ended with a breakdown before he could cover the mandatory 100km, so that session could not contribute the point. Cadillac believed his paperwork was in order after the Mexican Grand Prix, until a review of his previous results revealed the shortfall.
The outing also carries weight for Cadillac as it considers its 2027 driver line-up, with Valtteri Bottas potentially facing competition for his seat. Team principal Marcin Budkowski said the team had taken precautionary measures after Bottas suffered a suspension failure and high-speed accident in Mexico City.
