F1 CEO says Apple could bid for broadcast rights in other countries
F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali has said Apple TV, which holds F1's exclusive US broadcast rights under a five-year deal that began this year, is likely to seek broadcast contracts in other markets. He described the US partnership as an incredible opportunity to reach the 18-24 age group, while stressing that F1 does not intend to rely on a single media partner worldwide.
F1 parent company president Derek Chang said Apple had performed better than expected and that the company's interest in bidding in other markets is helpful to Liberty Media, as it adds demand for those rights. Chang also said the partnership is intended to last beyond the current five years.
Domenicali also pointed to recent contract extensions with Sky in the UK and Ireland, Sky Italia, beIN Sports, DAZN and Viaplay, and said global TV audiences grew in the third quarter, with double-digit percentage growth at several events including the Italian and Dutch races.
