Hamilton says F1 power unit rules prevent overtaking at Mexican Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton says Formula 1's power unit rules made it difficult for drivers to race at the Mexican Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver spent the final laps trying to attack race leader Max Verstappen but said the limits on energy deployment prevented him from doing so, a effect known as clipping that reduces the power being delivered.
In the post-race press conference, Hamilton said the FIA needed to address the issue, describing the clipping at the end of the straight as a restriction that leaves drivers following one another. He said the engine could go faster and called it the worst engine profile setting he could recall in the sport.
Hamilton also pointed to the high altitude, thin air and low downforce as factors that make following other cars difficult in Mexico, and suggested the final corner could be changed to improve racing.
