Colton Herta secures FIA superlicence after Interlagos practice

Source: RacingNews365 · · added 22 minutes ago

Colton Herta has officially qualified for an FIA superlicence, opening the door to a possible Formula 1 race seat in 2027. He took over Sergio Perez's Cadillac in first practice for the São Paulo Grand Prix, completing the 24 laps needed at Interlagos to earn the 100km of running required for a superlicence point.

Herta had been left one point short of the 40 needed after a mistake on the IndyCar website incorrectly listed his 2025 finish. The FIA confirmed he remained on 39 points, and his Interlagos running provided the final point. The nine-time IndyCar winner had earned one point in 2023, 30 in 2024 when he finished second in the American championship, and four last year, plus four from first practice outings for Cadillac this season.
