Norris fastest in Brazilian GP FP1 as Slater stops
Lando Norris set the fastest time in the first practice session for the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix, driving the upgraded McLaren. Kimi Antonelli, who recently secured his maiden world championship, was within a tenth of Norris, while Max Verstappen completed the top three.
Freddie Slater had further problems in the Audi, which stopped on track after losing drive through turns 6 to 8, bringing out a red flag. Session action resumed with around 40 minutes remaining, and Antonelli set a benchmark of 1:12.789 on medium tyres.
Verstappen reported unacceptable gear shifts in his Red Bull, while George Russell described understeer in his Mercedes. Several drivers, including Colton Herta, Lewis Hamilton and Lance Stroll, struggled to slow the car at Turn 1 early in the session.
