Honda Racing US backs Porsche's call for swift 2030 Hypercar rules clarity
Honda Racing Corporation USA has supported Porsche Motorsport's call for quick progress on the 2030 Hypercar and GTP regulations for the World Endurance Championship and IMSA. Kelvin Fu, the newly appointed HRC US president, said Honda is monitoring the working group discussions between the FIA, the ACO and IMSA, even though its Acura programme in IMSA has been paused because of the cost of Evo upgrades to its LMDh cars.
Porsche's Thomas Laudenbach has said he wants a detailed technical framework by Christmas 2026. Fu said Acura faces a similar timeline as it weighs its sports car future, given the lead times needed for prototype design and budget approval. He noted that developing a car for racing takes roughly two-and-a-bit years, so manufacturers would need to know the shape of the rules next year.
Fu added that the scope of the regulations, including whether the 2030 formula is a clean-sheet design or an evolution of existing platforms, will determine how early brands must commit resources.
