Marquez extends MotoGP championship lead after Qatar
Marc Marquez missed the chance to clinch his first title in Qatar on Sunday, but the reigning champion holds a 60-point advantage with two rounds remaining. Marco Bezzecchi won the grand prix and remains mathematically in contention, although he sits 74 points behind Marquez with the same number of points still available.
Bezzecchi would need to win all four remaining races while Marquez failed to score for the rest of the season to take the title. He now has a realistic chance of moving into second in the standings ahead of Martin.
Marquez will have his next opportunity in the Portimao Sprint, where a win in Saturday's race would give him a tenth world title.
